As the sun rises and you wake up to a new day, what are your thoughts? Are they about the million things on a to-do list? Are they about the upcoming presentation at work or a project that you have been assigned to but unsure of how to be successful? Are your thoughts focused on how to pay your bills or make more money while doing what you love?
Have no fear, there are ways to turn your day around in a blink of an eye. Regardless of your profession or where you live in the world, at some point in your adult life, you understand what it’s like to have a growing to-do list and demands popping up from every direction.
Have you heard the saying, “manage your day or the day will manage you”? There’s truth to that phrase and it all begins with your self-care routine. A daily self-care routine does not have to take hours or have a million steps. It can start with intentionally taking a few deep breaths upon waking up, a few stretches while still under the warm covers and a prayer of gratitude that slips from your lips before your feet touch the floor to start the day.
A self-care routine has to be meaningful and work for you in order to be sustainable and reap its many benefits.
For some, a routine includes a few minutes of journaling. For others, a routine includes prayer alone with God, morning yoga or a cup of hot tea as you bask in rays of the morning sun. Starting your day with an intentional self-care routine that grounds you and centers your mind will have lasting effects throughout the day. How do you like to start your day?
Once your day is started, you can always repeat any of those steps to help control the world surrounding you. Those high-intensity moments can come out of nowhere and can pull the rug from under you, unless you are equipped with the knowledge of how to re-center yourself and address those moments head-on with peace. I have clients that close their office door and take five minutes of deep breathing. Others find taking a walk around their office building to participate in walking meditation and steal a few minutes for themselves to combat the chaos of their day. The importance isn’t in what you do, the importance is in that you find something to do that works for you.
As a healthy person, you have more energy, focus and guided ability to be the entrepreneur, employee, community advocate or anything else that you desire to be. It’s a misconception that self-care must be time-intensive, costly or viable for only a few. The practice of taking care of yourself can be done morning, noon or night and at any time during the day when you find yourself in need of calmness. Start your self-care routine that touches your heart and centers your mind today. ~ Bianca Marie
